TRON08007 2013 Project Implementation
This is the second phase of the project in which the learner will use the output of the literary review to develop, build and test a working version of their chosen project.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Generate a project plan of tasks needed to complete the project
Update project plan on a regular basis
Investigate and use chosen technologies to implement a platform for the project
Generate flowchart for software and/or block/circuit diagrams to illustrate the designs used in the project
Develop the software for the project
Design a set of tests to test the project implementation and gather results of these tests for discussion in the report
Complete written thesis detailing methodology, results obtained, discussion of results, conclusions and recommentations
Communicate project status to the supervisor of project via journal entries, meetings, etc on a regular basis.
Defend project/written submissions at interview.
Demonstrate software and/or hardware at appripriate stages of the semester
Teaching and Learning Strategies
Where a student is working in industry, they will be encouraged to do a work-based project. This project must comply with the learning outcomes and guidelines provided with this module.
Module Assessment Strategies
Marking scheme for accessing project implementation learning outcomes
90-100% |
Exceptional level of attainment of learning outcomes · Outstanding and consistent work at or near publishable quality. · Displaying an exceptional level of originality and creativity and/or exceptional analytical and problem solving skills. · Exceptional implementation and verification of solution. · Opportunities evident to build on this work with further research. |
80-90% |
Outstanding range and depth of attainment of learning outcomes · Outstanding and consistent work which clearly shows a high level of originality and creativity and/or the ability to suggest/implement realistic solutions to novel problems. · Outstanding analysis and problem solving skills demonstrated throughout work. · Outstanding implementation and verification of solution. · Opportunities exist to build on this work with further research. |
70-80% |
Excellent attainment of virtually all learning outcomes · Excellent work which displays a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the subject area. · Evidence of critical evaluation of selected aspects of solution. · Development of comprehensive and ideally, original solutions to problems which are complex but not necessarily novel. · Excellent implementation and verification of solution. |
60-70% |
Clear attainment of most of the learning outcomes · Shows good knowledge and understanding of the problem with no major gaps or omissions. · Displays ability to analyse, interpret and organise information to implement solutions to relatively complex problems · Cohesive implementation and verification of solution. |
50-60% |
Satisfactory attainment of learning outcomes · Work shows a satisfactory knowledge and understanding of the essentials of the problem. · Evidence that implementation was undertaken in a well-structured manner but solution lacking in breadth and depth, or with significant aspects omitted. · Satisfactory implementation of solution with some verification. · Work demonstrates an ability to implement a satisfactory solution to limited, defined problems. |
40-50% |
Acceptable attainment of learning outcomes · Work shows a general knowledge and understanding of the problem but implementation is very limited in depth and breath. · Evidence of ability to analyse and solve basic, familiar problems. · Acceptable implementation of solution with some verification. · Work displays deficiencies and omissions but not serious enough to warrant a fail. |
30-40% |
Deficient attainment of specific learning outcomes · Marginal failure. · Knowledge and understanding of problem is fragmented and in some cases showing a very basic understanding of the issues involved. · Clear evidence of at least one instance of a fundamental error or omission of a critical aspect of the solution. · Unsatisfactory implementation of an acceptable solution. |
20-30% |
Widespread evidence of deficient attainment in core learning outcomes · Very limited range of knowledge evident with many important gaps and omissions in solution. · Shows incomplete understanding of major aspects of problem with numerous errors of interpretation. · Clear evidence demonstrating a poor or loose implementation of a solution with little in-depth analysis or problem solving attempted. |
10-20% |
Attempt at attaining learning outcomes markedly deficient in most of the learning outcomes · Shows only the most limited and fragmentary knowledge of the problem with little or no understanding of the essential principles and concepts. · Very poor or loose work with no real attempt at any solution. |
0-10% |
No satisfactory attainment of most/all of the learning outcomes. · Virtually devoid of any evidence of an attempt to understand the problem or to impose a solution. |
