Description

In an era of continual improvement there is an ever increasing dependancy on reliable data from measuring and controlling systems.

This module explores the role of metrology in modern manufacturing and the managment and control of measurement systems. It covers all aspects of measurement management from interpretation of specifications, determination of metrological requirements to instrument/measurement process selection, evaluation and ongoing calibration and maintenance.

The requirements of all the major international standards and regulators are covered in considerable detail.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Determine an inspection schedule based on process dominance criteria.

2.

Specify suitable measurement instruments and standards.

3.

Conduct an evaluation of a measurement process.

4.

Critically evaluate product and process requirements and translate them into metrological requirements.

5.

Develop appropriate test and calibration methods.

6.

Develop, install, manage and maintain an appropriate measurement management system.

7.

Quantify the expected level of measurement uncertainty in a given situation.
