Description

The module will build on the application of design communication skills using appropriate media including personal skills involving discussion, negotiation, and team-working. Develop visual (drawing, modelling and computer-aided), verbal and written communication methods and evaluate appropriate application. Develop lighting and material skills in CAD programmes and introduce image editing software.


Indicative Syllabus

·         Sectional perspectives

·         Detailed orthographic drawings

·         Freehand drawing and rendering techniques

·         Cross-referencing of design information and integrating presentation packages.

·         Presentation and process models

·         Presentation techniques and media

·         2Dand 3D drafting skills within different CAD environments.


Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to
  1. Debate design ideas within visual, verbal and written presentations, utilising appropriate language, terminology and representational graphics

  2. Integrate the context, use and cross-referencing of design information in a set of complex design drawings

  3. Construct and utilise scale models, using appropriate materials, as a design development tool from concept to presentation stage aligned with studio design projects

  4. Generate and modify detailed, 3-Dimensional geometry within a CAD programme

  5. Create and modify materials and maps to effectively convey design ideas within a computer graphics programme

  6. Create and modify lights and lighting systems to effectively convey light and shadow solutions within a CAD programme

Formative and summative continuous assessment modes using a range of techniques which includes group and/or individual work mainly: drawings, models, projects and presentations
