Description

The module will introduce a range of design communication skills using appropriate media (drawing, modelling and computer-aided) including personal skills involving discussion, negotiation, and team-working. Students will develop an understanding of architectural drawings and conventions and visual representation methods. Introduction to the essential tools, commands and modifiers required to produce simple architectural CAD drawings

·         Orthographic and paraline drawing

·         Sketch and constructed perspectives

·         Model types and techniques; model-making safety procedures

·         Architectural vocabulary & terminology

·         Three-dimensional orthographic drawing

·         Team-working skills

·         Research techniques

·         Rendering techniques and presentation skills

·         Collage and photo-montage

·         CAD: draw and modify commands

·         CAD: drawing and file management

·         CAD: printing and plotting

          CAD: Ergonomics and Health and Safety


Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to
  1. Deliver visual, verbal and written presentations utilising appropriate language, terminology and representational graphics

  2. Compile and deliver a presentation to a peer group and to listen and critically respond to the views of others

  3. Utilise orthographic and paraline architectural drawing conventions at a basic level

  4. Appreciate the range, context, use and cross-referencing of design information

  5. Construct and utilise scale models, using appropriate materials, as a design development tool from concept to presentation stage

  6. Create simple design drawings within a CAD programme

  7. Utilise basic image edit techniques within a CAD programme

  8. Manage electronic drawings, files, folders, CAD blocks employing an appropriate nomenclature

Formative and summative continuous assessment modes using a range of techniques which includes group and/or individual work mainly: drawings, essays, projects, presentations, debate.
