WORK08007 2013 ENVIRONMENTAL TOPICS, CASE STUDIES AND WORK PLACEMENT
Students are required to undertake a period of Work Placement in a relevant Company/Organisation at the end of 3rd Year and make a presentation to their peers and staff for examination. Students must also present a written report on their Placement for evaluation. Guest speakers are invited to address the class on a regular basis on a range of currrent topics. At the end of the semester students sit an examination on Environmental Science Topics which are evaluated by staff in the Department.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Communicate scientific information in a variety of forms to specialist and non-specialist audiences.

Module Assessment Strategies
The students are assessed on the basis of their performance and communications from the Work Placement element of the Module as well as their level of knowledge as assessed by an end of term examination set and marked by members of the environmental science department staff on a variety of topical environmental issues which is internally and externally moderated.
Module Dependencies
Indicative Syllabus
- Work placement, minimum 12 weeks duration
- Maintenance of daily diary for the duration of the work placement
- Presentation of work experience
- Participation in peer review of work placement of fellow students
- Attendance at presentations given by visiting experts and former graduates
- Attendance on 1-2 three day field trips to industries / plants (e.g. incinerators) of environmental interest
- Self directed learning to accrue knowledge in regard to environmental topics currently being discussed by the government, experts and the general public.
