Description

The primary objective of the work placement is to provide the student with broader skills and knowledge of the working environment in the financial services sector. Furthermore, it will allow the learner an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations and to enhance the student's knowledge and awareness of the working environment.

 

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Prepare for work practice; design curriculum vitae, identify opportunities, take responsibiilty for interview preparation, understand the requirements of the workplace (prior to placement)

2.

Communicate effectively, in a professional and objective manner; verbally, using technology and other methods as appropriate

3.

Build on core business knowledge by relate relevant theory to scenarios in the work environment

4.

Demonstrate the use of prior learning in a work based projects, or in the work environment in general

5.

Reflect on placement experience; review career choices in light of their own aspirations, experience, ability and available options

Teaching and Learning Strategies

Students will be encouraged to create their own CV and to play a proactive role in the securing of work placemet.  A one week study block will be held at the start of semester 2, where students will be advised as to what can be expected of work placements (along with other oniline modules)

Module Assessment Strategies

Assessment is on a pass/fail basis.  Students will submit a reflective diary at the completion of the placement period. This diary should demonstrate the meeting of learning outcomes

Repeat Assessments

Failed placements will be dealt with on a case by case basis. Typically students will be expected to complete placement at a later date

Indicative Syllabus

The Institute's supervisors will take an active role in ensuring that all students will be successful in procuring work placements.  The students may wish to obtain their own placements and this will be acceptable provided the Institute's supervisors are satisfied that the particular work placement meets the learning objectives. Work placement will be for a minimum of 16 weeks.

In the event of a work placement not being obtained a project will be completed by the students, subject to the agreement fo the relevant supervisor and Head of Department.
