Description

This module introduces the student to Hardware Design, Software Design, Debugging and System Integration processes through a directed project design and build.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Complete a circuit design using schematic capture software tools.

2.

 Identify and select electronic components for a project.

3.

Develop suitable embedded software design for a specific application.

4.

Build, debug and test an electronic circuit board.

5.

Perform electrical and electronic tests using diagnostic equipment.

  1. Project Overview: Project Description, Specifications, Concept Development, Block diagram Generation, Flowchart Generation.
  2. Circuit Design: Hardware Design Process, Schematic Capture.
  3. Electronic Components: Description, Component Selection, Bill of Materials.
  4. Artwork: Printed Circuit Board Layout, CAD.
  5. Assembly Techniques: Soldering.
  6. Programming:  Software Design Process & Microcontroller Programming
  7. Testing and Troubleshooting: Test Plans (Hardware Acceptance, Hardware Integration to Software, Functional etc.), Systematic Debug, Electronic Diagnostic Tools.
  8. Documentation: Technical Report Writing, Poster Presentation.
