TRON06044 2019 Audio and Image Processing
This module covers a high level discussion and analysis of Image processing and Audio Processing Fundamentals.
In Image processing, it looks at the standard parameters used to describe an image as well as basic digital image processing techniques.
In Audio processing, the basic terminology of sound and music is covered along with frequency analysis techniques and audio processing algorithms.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Describe the important parameters used in the description of images.
Use standard Vision System Software.
Make appropriate modifications to images to achieve specified results.
Describe the main terms used in Music Technology.
Use audio effects and manipulation to achieve desired results.
Teaching and Learning Strategies
A 2-hour lecture will be provided weekly. The material for the weekly lecture will be made available beforehand, to allow students to prepare as necessary. Where relevant, further reading will be made available post-lecture.
A 2-hour lab session will be provided weekly. The intent is for the student to put into practice the theory gained during the weekly lecture.
It is proposed that a workplace engagement component will be introduced to this module via a guest lecturer, an industrial site visit or a work-based assignment where possible.
Module Assessment Strategies
An end of semester written exam, a midterm and lab assignments will be given to assess the module.
Repeat Assessments
A repeat exam during the Autumn sitting will be made available.
In addition, an opportunity to submit repeat assessment work will be available for the Autumn sitting.
