Electronic project for second year electronics degree

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

Complete a circuit design using schematic capture software tools.

2.

 Identify and select electronic components for a project.

3.

 Convert a schematic into a layout using CAD tools.

4.

Build and populate a Printed Circuit Board

5.

 Carry out electrical and electronic tests on a PCB using laboratory equipment.

Indicative Syllabus

  1. Project Overview: Project Description, Specifications, Block diagram Generation.
  2. Circuit Design: Schematic Capture.
  3. Electronic Components: Description, Component Selection, Bill of Materials.
  4. Artwork: Printed Circuit Board Layout, CAD.
  5. Assembly Techniques: Milling, Drilling, Cutting, Cropping, Soldering.
  6. Programming: Simple  Programming of code to microcontroller
  7. Testing and Troubleshooting: Test Plan, Continuity Testing, Functional Testing, Power Supply, Meters, Oscilloscope.
  8. Documentation: Technical Report Writing, Poster Presentation.
