Description

This Electronics module, introduces students to circuit layout, schematic capture, circuit simulation, and use of electronic instruments for measurement.Simulation allows students to explore how different configurations, component selections, noise, and signal sources affect circuit designs.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

 Identify electronic circuit symbols and layout circuits according to layout conventions

2.

Complete a circuit design using schematic capture software tools

3.

 Use simple virtual instruments to measure circuit outcomes

4.

Modify circuit elements according to prescribed instructions

5.

Identify and select electronic components for a project

Indicative Syllabus

 Conventions on citcuit layout, Voltage measurements in a circuit. Thevenin’s Theorem, and resistance capacitance and inductance in circuits.  Diodes, Transistors, Operational Amplifiers, timers.  Use of oscilloscope, multimeter, variable power supply, and function generator.
