Description

The module will provide the learner with an understanding of the fundamental concepts of tourism and how it is organised and managed. It examines the reasons why people go on holiday and the motivating factors associated with travel and tourism. It outlines the evolution as well as the future development potential of the tourism and travel industry.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Demonstrate an understanding of key tourism concepts and practices including an awareness of the evolution of tourism

2.

Develop a critical awareness of the structure and interdependence of key players within the tourism industry on a national and international level

3.

Identify the components and stakeholders associated with the tourist destination and explore how destinations are managed

4.

Gain an understanding of consumer behaviour with regard to tourism and discuss relevant motivational theories

5.

Explore the future trends and challenges for the tourism industry.
