Description

This module aims to provide students with the skills and techniques required to work in a regulated biomedical laboratory. The module will provide a hands-on, practical experience in experimentation, interpretation and reporting methods used in a biological laboratory and will further develop the students skills and knowledge already acquired in Science Laboratory Skills 2.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Experimentally perform, communicate and interpret laboratory protein determinations and protein detection.

2.

Demonstrate adeptness in chromatographic methods for protein purification.

3.

Competency in lipid analyses and interpretation of data.

4.

Analysis, interpretation and displaying scientific data.

5.

Communicate information accurately and effectively using written, visual and numeral forms.

6.

Carry out laboratory work in a professional manner that meets best practice standards and health and safety requirements.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

Teaching and learning will be achieved via laboratory based practical course work, self-directed reading of the subject matter, laboratory report writing, discussion, research assignment and assessment.

Module Assessment Strategies

Assessment will be achieved through laboratory practical participation, report writing, research assignment and quiz (multiple choice questions/short answer questions).

Repeat Assessments

Repeat assessment will be achieved through laboratory practical participation, report writing, research assignment and quiz (multiple choice questions/short answer questions).

Module Dependencies

Prerequisites
