SAFE06023 2019 ENVIRONMENT HEALTH AND SAFETY
This module will give students a foundation in Environmental Health and Safety enabling them to apply these fundamentals to the area of pharmaceutical science.
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Identify hazards in the workplace and apply appropriate control measures with special reference to the needs of the pharmaceutical sector.
Outline the parameters used for Environmental Health and Safety monitoring in Ireland
Examine the links between environmental and occupational safety and health issues in the workplace.
Identify and analyse Occupational Safety and Health and Environmental legislation with reference to its impact on the Pharmaceutical sector.
Communicate the need for effective management of Environmental, Health and Safety issues in the workplace.
Teaching and Learning Strategies
This module will be delivered full time and will include lectures and practical demonstrations augmented by collaborative work, independent and directed learning.
Module Assessment Strategies
Students will be assessed individually and as groups through a variety of written assignments and presentation work. Short answer questions will summarise the individuals learning at the end of the semester.
Continuous Assessment and/or final exam
Environmental monitoring and analysis; atmosphere, water, wastewater, waste etc.
Hazard identification and risk assessment
Fire, electricity, emergency planning and hazards associated with building activities relevant to the pharmaceutical sector
Noise, dust, vibration and associated occupational hygiene issues.
Occupational diseases, health promotion and psychosocial hazards.
Manual handling, ergonomics.
Hazardous materials classification, confined spaces, lock-out tag-out etc.
Relevant EHS legislation.
