This module aims at developing the students understanding of the importance of design and constructability and the affect of material design and selection on performance

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Recognise the influence of material choice and selection of design features on building performance

2.

Identify the importance of design and constructability

3.

Develop a knowledge of services integration for the construction process to be carried out efficiently

4.

Summarise the different approaches and regulation requirements relating to access and use of buildings

5.

Compare different approaches to building finishes

1. Materials – Selection, performance and functional requirements

2. Joinery – Selection, performance and functional requirements

3. Finishes – Internal/ external selection, performance and functional requirements

4. Access and Use – stairs and ramps

5. Introduction to building services – Entry, builders work and accommodation of building services
