Description

 Introduction to contract administration and structure of construction industry

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Demonstrate a knowledge of Design and Construction team personnel and their work

2.

Analyse the various methods of procurement

3.

Compare and debate all aspects of tendering

4.

Distinguish the qualities regarding ‘ethics’ required of professionals, the Quantity Surveyor in particular

5.

Illustrate knowledge of standard contractual and construction practice documentation

Teaching and Learning Strategies

Delivery by lecture; self-directed learning with guidance of academic staff (relevant exercises reference to reading material); syllabus material recorded through 'live recordings' and posting of content in 'pdf' format for continual reference by student throughout Semester

By project work/assignment - details sent to student with examination results and date stated for submission; work will be similar in nature to that given during the Semester and all required study/refreence material wil be available on 'moodle'

Contractor/Design Team relationships

Design Team members  -  duties and responsibilities relative to construction contract  -  introduction Procurement  -  matters pertaining to appropriate system of contractual set-up for proposed project

Tendering  -  ‘open’, ‘selective’, pre-qualification, preliminary invitation, invitation

Ethics  -  it’s application to professionals generally and to the Design Team and Contractor in particular

Contractual/practice documentation  -  Standard Forms of Contract, The Liaison Committee Code of Practice, Agreed Rules of Measurement  -  introduction to/their position in the construction business
