This module will enable students to create and manage construction programmes using software with dedicated resource and cost management functions  

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;


Employ appropriate software to produce Gantt chart programmes and schedules for construction projects


Structure a project into groups of related tasks for critical path and project network analysis


Analyse the use of resources for the allocation of costs


Create and manipulate a cost histogram to illustrate cost and resource data


Manage the progress of individual projects using the initial programme

Programming theory – Gantt Charts, critical path, Resource charts,  work breakdown structures,

Project Network Analysis, Optimising time and project costs, Cost optimisation, Activity compression, PERT

Resources – identification and sourcing of resources, utilisation, levelling, sub-contract coordination

Overview of Programming Software – activities, durations, dependencies, resources, calendar definitions, progress control, reporting

Project Software Programmes – progress monitoring, progress control, progress feedback, progress reporting and recording, data presentation, cash flow analysis, change effects

Use of Project Software Programmes for Resource and Cost Management - Cost Centres, Allocating Costs, Histograms, Resource Modelling & Levelling, Baselines for cost comparison, Progress, Spreadsheet Tables
