On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

Describe the benefit of IT to the construction industry

2.

Demonstrate a working knowledge of the basic computer housekeeping functions in order to organise, manipulate and manage data files and folders within networks and the internet

3.

Operate the basic functions of spreadsheet software

4.

Perform analyses using spreadsheet functions 

5.

Integrate the basic functions of wordprocessing software

6.

Demonstrate the ability to produce professional presentations using appropriate software

ICT within the construction industry

Introduction to computer hardware, software, networks, drives, files/folders, browsers, printing, email and Internet use - researching information

Word processing software – create documents, insert, manipulate and format text, images, draw, preview and print;

Presentation software – insert, manipulate and format text, images, slides, draw, charts, special effects, print and publish

Introduction to spreadsheet functions – insert, manipulate, edit and format data; link spreadsheets; create formulae, import objects; print and protect spreadsheets.

Advanced spreadsheet functions (financial, statistical and logical)

Spreadsheet design for Quantity Surveyors – estimates, cost plans, bills of quantities, valuation recommendations, final accounts.

Spreadsheet display - charts, tables, histograms, distributions
