PERF07011 2019 Studio Skills 4 (CAD for Theatre Design: 3D Modelling)
This module has been developed to provide the learner with the knowledge and skills associated with Technical Drawing and Model Making for practitioners of Theatre Design. The skills are intended to concisely and clearly communicate all needed specifications to transform an idea into a physical form. The learner shall be able to interpret and communicate designs and ideas in 2D and 3D. The learner will further develop skills in CAD for Theatre Design including 3D computer modelling.
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Request plans, elevations and technical specifications of a national performance space.
Use plans and translate same to execute an AutoCAD plan and elevation of a performance space.
Use plans and translate same to execute a detailed 3D model of the designated performance space.
Produce an AutoCAD ground plan and elevation of the set design, as well as 3D modelling of set elements.
Use digital media to capture theatrical moments illustrated within the constructed 3D model for presentation and portfolio purposes.
Module Assessment Strategies
Assessment is continuous and is undertaken at the conclusion of each block or project.
The semester commences by facilitating a project assigned by Design Studies Staff. The following content shall be taught in order to aid the fruition of the project:
CAD for Theatre Design 3
Creating Ground Plans in AutoCAD
Creating Elevations in AutoCAD
3D CAD Modelling
Basic Walkthrough animation.
Combining AutoCAD with other digital media products.
Creation of presentations and portfolios.
Architectural Representation for Theatre Design 3
2d and 3d Orthographic Drawing
