This module will enable graduate students to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate nutrition interventions in a range of settings. It will also introduce the theories of behaviour change which will be critically analysed to determine their effectiveness in different populations.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;


Evaluate the appropriateness of nutrition and related interventions or programmes to address a nutritional issue


Analyse key factors contributing to success or failure of interventions or programmes addressing nutrition problems


Demonstrate the ability to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate appropriate interventions and programmes to address nutrition issues


Critically assess a range of health behaviour techniques and demonstrate how their application can support change within individuals and groups

Teaching and Learning Strategies

This module will be delivered through online weekly lectures. This will consist of a one hour lecture per week as well as one hour of asynchronous learning which will consist of interactive and forum discussions. In addition the learner will be expected to allocate an additional 5 hours per week for continuous assessment and additional reading

Module Assessment Strategies

This module is 100% continuous assessment, which will consist of critical evaluation of the existing intervention and development of detailed intervention plan to address nutrition related problem.

Indicative Syllabus

Theories, models and principles and of behaviour change; application of behaviour change models and principles to specific populations (inactive, obese, elderly) within the context of health and well-being; Concepts of health promotion strategies (frameworks), brief interventions; assess the evidence base of the use of these models in practice so as to assess their impact on health and well-being; appropriateness of nutrition interventions and programmes to address a nutritional issue; key factors contributing to success or failure of interventions or programmes addressing nutrition issues; planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of nutrition programmes; constraints involved in project implementation, application of qualitative and quantitative methodology to nutrition interventions, mHealth and eHealth interventions, ethical considerations involved in planning an intervention, health economics as it pertains to interventions
