Description

This module aims to provide the student with an understanding of the processes that constitute effective modern management practice. The module endeavours to increase the students understanding of the roles and responsibilities of managers which include planning and decision making, organising resources, leading a team and controlling organisational performance.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Analyse the managers role as a decision maker and identify factors that influence the decision making process.

2.

Outline considerations for planning in a dynamic and changing environment.

3.

Discuss and appraise the role of group behaviour, motivation and leadership in organisations.

4.

Appreciate how control tools can be used to improve performance in an organisational setting.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

The student will engage with the content of the module through lectures, case studies, problem based learning and use of interactive multi-media tools.

Module Assessment Strategies

A combination of in class exercises, multiple choice tests, written research reports, oral presentations and end of semester examination will be used as appropriate for assessment purposes.
