This course will introduce the student to the concepts, terminology, and approaches used in data communication systems in industry.

 

 

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Demonstrate a basic a basic knowledge of digital circuitry using logic.

2.

Demonstrate an understanding of serial and parallel communication.

3.

Interface sensors and transducers

4.

Explain the function of analogue communication.

5.

Describe high-pass low-pass and band-pass filters

6.

Understand Analogue to digital conversion and digital to analogue conversion.

Module Assessment Strategies

Students will be assessed on a combination of events.  Final written exam, continuous assessment and lab work.

Serial and parallel communication both practical and theory.

The theory of sensors and transducers.

Analogue communication and 4-20 ma communication

The theory of filtering unwanted signals

Converting Analogue signals to digital

Converting Digital to analogue.
