Arithmetic, algebra, functions and trigonometry

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Understand the role of set theory, relations and functions in mathematics

2.

Rearrange and solve algebraic equations, including quadratics and simultaneous linear equations

3.

Solve trigonometric equations and apply them to height and distance problems

4.

Perform numerical calculations competently with emphasis on accuracy

5.

Draw and interpret graphs of functions

Indicative Syllabus

Revision of computation, algebraic operations, transposition of formulae, solution of algebraic equations, laws of indices

Elementary set theory, relations, functions and their graphs

Solution of right-angled and other triangles, sin and cos rules, trigonmetric identities, degrees and radians, area and circumference of circles
