This module is aimed at students availing of the Erasmus exchange programme in a German-speaking college abroad.  It aims to progress the language skills relevant to an intermediate level in the target language, developing fluency and levels of comprehension so that the student can interact in a native speaking environment with relative ease.  All teaching and assessment will be carried out in and by the host college.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;


progress towards achieving Level B2 (independent User) withing the Common European Framework for Language Learning ( Council of Europe Guidelines)


understand the main ideas of more complex text on topics which relate to their field of specialisation


produce detailed texts on subjects relating to both their personal interests and their chosen area of study


interact with some fluency and spontaneity with native speakers


express a viewpoint on topics relating to their field of interest and current affairs

Indicative Syllabus

Listening: can understand the main ideas of more complex text which relates to issues of personal interest and their field of specialisation and relevant radio and TV programmes

Reading:  can understand the main ideas of more complex text and articles

Spoken Interaction:  can communicate with relative ease with native speakers on a range of topics and demonstrate increased fluency and spontaniety in such situations

Spoken Production: can present clear descriptions on  the range of subjects relevant to this semester

Writing:  can write detailed text on the range of subjects relevant to this semester

Cultural Awareness: can demonstrate an understanding of German culture through project and presentation work
