LANG07018 2016 German Beginners Level 3 Semester 2
In this module the student will achieve pre-Intermediate level in the target language. It builds on the student's level of oral fluency and written expression attained in Level 3.1. The student attains an initial level of independent expression in the target language. The student presents and appraises aspects of the culture and civilisation of the target language already researched at Level 3.1.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
achieve Level B1 (Independent user) within the Common European Framework for Language Learning (Council of Europe Guidelines).
understand and comment on the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.
deal with with a broad range of situations most likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken.
independently produce simple, connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest.
describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions, and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
implement a level of grammatical accuracy appropriate to the level
demonstrate awareness of correct accent and pronunciation.
demonstrate increased understanding of German cultural life through oral presentation of a project, presentation or similar

Indicative Syllabus
Listening: can understand with ease the main points of clear, standard speech on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc; can understand the main point of many radio or TV programmes on current affairs or topics of personal or professional interest when the delivery is relatively slow and clear.
Reading: can understand texts that consist mainly of high frequency everyday or job-related language; can understand the description of events, feelings and wishes in personal letters and shorter texts building on Level 3.1; can demonstrate an awareness of different registers of simple written text.
Spoken interaction: can deal with a relatively broad range of situations most likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken; can enter unprepared into conversation on topics that are familiar, of personal interest or pertinent to everyday life (family, hobbies, work, travel and current events).
Spoken production: can connect phrases in a simple way in order to describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions; can briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans; can narrate a story or relate the plot of a book or film and describe one's own reaction to it.
Writing: can write simple connected texts on topics which are familiar or of personal interest; can write personal letters/e-mails describing experiences and impressions.
Cultural awareness: orally present findings from cultural research at Level 3.1.
