Description

This Module expands on the range of skills attained in Semester 1 so that the student should be equipped to perform at CEFR A2 Level. Cultural issues will continue to be explored through similar media as in Semester 1.  

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

progress to CEFR A2 Level.

2.

employ an increased range of sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment).

3.

demonstrate an ability to communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.

4.

describe using a full range of vocabulary appropriate to the Level aspects of his/her background; immediate environment; the world of work; matters of immediate need.

5.

 complete, with guidance, a cultural task in French.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

Active learning is encouraged and participation is facilitated through small class size, roleplay and e-learning activities,via Moodle amd the Virtual Learning Environment.  The use of authentic texts (abridged) with audio and audio-visual materials provides an introduction to modern Francophone media and underpins the contemporary focus of relevant topics.  Conversation with native speakers will be facilitated where possible.

Indicative Syllabus

Listening:

can understand phrases and the highest frequency vocabulary related to areas of most immediate personal relevance, e.g. basic personal and family information, shopping, local area, employment. Can catch the point in short, clear, simple messages and announcements. 
Reading:

can read short, simple texts, can find specific predictable information in simple everyday material such as advertisements, menus and timetables, can understand short simple personal letters/emails.


Spoken Interaction:

can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring  simple and direct exchange of information on familiar topics and activities, can handle short social exchanges.

Spoken Production: 

can use a series of phrases and sentences to describe in simple terms  educational background and present or most recent job. 

Writing:

can write short simple notes and messages relating to matters in areas of immediate needs, can write a simple formal email
