LANG06063 2016 French Beginners Level 2 Semester 1
This module aims to progress students from elementary to post-beginner level in the target language developing fluency in a range of everyday and work situations relevant to the course. It also provides students with a more extensive knowledge of the culture and civilisation of the target language.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
progress towards achieving Level A2 (Basic User) within the Common European Framework for Language Learning (Council of Europe Guidelines).
understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information; shopping; local geography; employment)
communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.
demonstrate awareness of grammatical accuracy appropriate to the Level.
complete a written project on a chosen aspect of French/francophone life

Indicative Syllabus
Listening: with appropriate support can understand phrases and some high frequency vocabulary related to areas of most immediate personal relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local area, employment); in guided exercises catch the main point in short, clear, simple messages and announcements.
Reading: using pre-taught vocabulary can read very short, simple texts; can find predictable information in simple everyday material such as advertisements, prospectuses, menus and timetables; can understand short, simple personal messages and e-mails.
Spoken interaction: can communicate in guided tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar topics and activities; can handle very short social exchanges.
Spoken production: can use a series of phrases and sentences to describe in simple terms a selection of the following topics: family and other people, living conditions, educational background, and present or most recent job.
Writing: with appropriate support can write short, simple notes and messages relating to matters in areas of immediate needs.
Cultural awareness: develop appreciation of French culture through project and either film or internet research.
