Description

This module aims to further introduce students to the target language covering a range of everyday and work situations relevant to the nature of the course. It also provides students with an introduction to the culture and civilisation of the target language

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

continue progress towards achieving Level A1 (Basic User) within the Common European Framework for Language Learning (Council of Europe Guidelines)

2.

understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type

3.

introduce oneself and others; ask and answer questions about personal details e.g. where he/she lives; people he/she knows; things he/she has

4.

interact in a simple way provided the other person speaks slowly and clearly, and is prepared to help

5.

be familiar with the geography of Germany and understand some important cultural aspects of the country

Indicative Syllabus

Listening:  can recognise familiar words and very basic phrases concerning myself, my family and immediate concrete surroundings when people speak slowly and clearly
Reading: can understand familiar names, words and very simple sentences, for example on notices and posters or in catalogues
Spoken interaction: can interact in a simple way provided the other person is prepared to repeat or rephrase things at a slower rate of speech and help me formulate what I'm trying to say. I can ask and answer simple questions in areas of immediate need or on very familiar topics
Spoken production: can use simple phrase and sentences to describe where I live and people I know
Writing: can write a short. simple postcard, for example sending holiday greetings.
