LANG06012 2016 German Beginners Level 2 Semester 2
This module aims to develop language skills at post-beginner level in the target language: increasing fluency and levels of comprehension in a range of everyday and work situations relevant to the course and not covered at Level 2.1. It continues to familiarise the student with the culture and the civilisation of the target language
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
perform confidently at Level A2 (Basic User) within the Common European Framework of Language Learning (Council fo Europe Guidelines).
understand and modify sentences and frequently used expressions related to ares of interest and immediated relevance not covered at Level 2.1 (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment).
without assistance communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine mattes.
describe using a full range of vocabulary appropriate to the Level aspects of his/her background; immediate environment; the world of work; and matters in areas of immediate need.
demonstrate awareness of grammatical accuracy appropriate to the Level
make an oral presentation on a chosen aspect of German life

Indicative Syllabus
Listening: can understand with ease phrases and common high-frequency vocabulary relatd to areas of most immediate personal relevance, building on Level 2.1 ( e.g. personal and family information, shopping, local area and employment, social life); catch and reproduce the main points of short, clear, simple messages and announcements
Reading: can read independently very short, simple texts; can find specific infromation in simple everyday material such as advertisements, prospectuses, menus and timetables; can understand simple letters and articles.
spoken Interaction: can communicate with relative ease in simple and routine tasks requiring simple and direct exchange of information on familiar topics and activities; can handle simple exchanges and use initiative to keep a conversation going on a simple, informal level.
Spoken Production: can independtly describe in simple terms a selection of the following not covered in at Level 2.1: family and other people, living conditions, educational background, present or most recent job. Can formulate simple, direct questions relating to these topics.
Writing: can compose short simple notes and messages relating to matters of immediate needs, e.g. write a simple, personal letter, e.g. thanking someone for something; can reply to an advertisement.
Cultural Awareness: can express in simple terms an appreciation of a chosen aspect of German culture based on a project and either film or internet research in Level 2.1.
