Description
Students are required to undertake a period of Work Placement in a relevant Company/Organisation at the end of 3rd Year and make a presentation to their peers and staff for examination. Students must also present a written report on their Placement for evaluation. Guest speakers are invited to address the class on a regular basis on a range of current environmental topics.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
1.
Communicate scientific information in a variety of forms to specialist and non-specialist audiences.
2.
Behave ethically in a range of work settings and recognise and respect the views of others
3.
Contribute fully to the day-to-day operations of a scientific industry, or other scientific work setting.
4.
Reflect on own work practices and Identify knowledge gaps and source and undertake self-learning to fill the gaps.
5.
Develop a capacity for social responsibility.
Teaching and Learning Strategies
This Module will be delivered full-time. Students will deliver presentations of work placement to lecturers and staff as well as submitting a diary and written report. The Module will include site visits to enable students to gain experience a range of industrial facilities.
Module Assessment Strategies
The students are assessed on the basis of their performance and communications from the Work Placement element of the Module as well as from reports of site visits.

- Work placement, minimum 12 weeks duration
- Maintenance of diary for the duration of the work placement
