This module provides an introduction to tabular and spatial data management and analysis. Students are introduced to geographic information systems (GIS) and their application in environmental sciences. A range of data compilation and data interrogation processes are introduced in order to provide the student with competence in a range of tabular and spatial data manipulation and presentation tasks.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

Compile feature attributes in tabular format

Display feature and tabular data within a GIS environment.

Query and find features using logical expressions and spatial relationships.

Work with GIS functions to assign symbology, manage labels and produce customised map documents.

Module Assessment Strategies

Formative - Practical activities performed in class

Summative - Assessment of core skills in spatial and tabular data management, analysis, and presentation.

Module Dependencies
