This final module of the honours degree program provides an opportunity for students to apply professional creative and reflective faculties in relation to real design challenges. The students will work to identify critical issues and propose professional near future design solutions to a theme issued by program staff.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

Identify design issues based on a broad theme by conducting high level design research.

Correlate, analyse and evalute user-centred information and data to prioritise design specific criteria

Determine best practice in working with clients through the different design stages and processes

Understanding of commercial awareness in the context of the design process

Communicate strategically the role and value of design in entrepreneurial and professional contexts

Present coherent and reflective arguments to support design strategies and decisions

Module Assessment Strategies

The integration of written, oral and visual presentations as assessment deliverables and activities are fundamental to this module.

Regular reviews of the student's design project to help identify problems and solutions and to apply appropriate strategies for investigating and drawing conclusions.

Where possible, there is an emphasis put on interactions with external bodies and clients in both the negotiation and creation of meaningful student centred assessment.

Indicative Syllabus

Students will undertake a major professional design project to a theme identified by program staff. Research is used to identify critical niches for opportunities for design and new technology to make lifestyle improvements through the proposal of products, systems, services and interactions.

Individual Design Project Work.
