Description

This module provides students with an opportunity to understand the role of market research and business planning in the commercialisation of a product or design. It allows them to set out and justify business ideas in a logical framework. It is a blueprint for students wishing to commercialise their product into a business, or establish a design consultancy.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Assess the commercial viability of their idea and prepare a business plan based on the idea and the target market; demonstrate an understanding of competitor analysis and the business environment.

2.

Understand how to conduct market research, and to make decisions on the most appropriate market research methodologies to employ.

3.

Predict financial requirements for individual products, set up costs, daily costs etc.

4.

Set up milestones to progress the business and forecast any potential stumbling blocks such as standard requirements and legal protection.

5.

Have a knowledge of sources of funding, including investors, business angels and the financial and non-financial supports available from State Agencies; understand the information required to apply for and secure funding.
