Introduction to measurement of building work and the work of the Quantity Surveyor; introduction to ARM4

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Know the principles and practice of measurement of simple buildings

2.

Recognise and use quantity surveying skills essential for measurement of building work

3.

Apply basic mathematical rules and formulae to building measurement (areas, volumes, centre-lines)

4.

Measure basic building quantities from drawings and on site

5.

Know the common units of measurement for basic construction items

The Bill of Quantities  -  purpose, sections, relevance, uses

Measurement techniques  -  units, order/sequence, centre-line, presentation, take-off layout

Description writing for measurement, measurement of a substructure to small building (ie ‘domestic garage)

Specification appreciation, incorporation of specification into description
