Description

This Module will give students the knowledge and skills to manage and maintain virtualisation services and automate administrative tasks through the use of PowerShell Scripting

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Understand how System Center Virtual Machine Manager can be used to manage Hyper-V virtual machines

2.

Use Powershell to manage the Hyper-V server and the Virtual Machines hosted on a Hyper-V server

3.

Plan and implement a disaster recovery plan for Virtual machines on Hyper-V

Module Assessment Strategies

Assessment will be done by practical exams on virtual machines to test the students ability to manage and maintain a virtualised environment

Introduction to System Center Virtual Machine Manager

  • Introduction to how System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) works
  • Understand how to manage Hyper-V virtual machines using SCVMM
  • Understand and use the SCVMM Library
  • Understand and manage checkpoints

Using PowerShell to manage the Hyper-V Server

  • Introduction to PowerShell
  • Using basic PowerShell
  • Creating PowerShell scripts to automate administrative tasks

Planning and Implementing Disaster Recovery

  • Develop a disaster recovery strategy
  • Use Windows Server backup to backup virtual machines
  • Restoring virtual machines
