This module provides a comprehensive study of electronic spreadsheets. Using data derived from real-world health sciences, students will learn how to use appropriate spreadsheet software features to organise, analyse and present data.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

Create complex formulae and advanced charts

Use a wide range of Excel functions – Mathematical / Statistical / Financial / Text / Lookup / Date & Time

Create Tables, PivotTables and PivotCharts

Teaching and Learning Strategies

The module will also adopt some principles of universal design for learning by using a combination of online lectures, self-study, problem-solving exercises and computer-based learning. It will also employ a "flipped classroom" approach where students will engage with Moodle based notes, videos and quizzes.

Module Assessment Strategies

Students will be assessed in a variety of ways with feedbacks enhanced by technology. The module will be assessed by means of practical activities during the weekly practical sessions, assignments in the word processing and presentations section which will be completed during the students independent learning. There will also be a computer laboratory-based assessment at the end of the module to ensure the student has met the learning outcomes and has taken on board the feedback given during the weekly practical sessions and the assignments already completed.

Repeat Assessments

Where the module mark is below 40%, the student will be asked to resubmit assignments for re-evaluation or repeat a practical continuous assessment.
