Description

The 4th year honours project is designed to enable students to carry out a major, independent research project, leading to the production of a circa 10,000 word thesis. This project can be desk based, involve field work, lab work and/or experimental archaeology.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.
Design and manage a successful research agenda.
2.

Demonstrate individual knowledge and/or practical skills acquired during the course in the design, execution and conclusions of their research.

3.

Analyse and evaluate data produced in the study.

4.

Integrate results of the project into a broader evaluation of the research topic.

5.
Analyse critically the existing literature associated with the research topic.
6.
Write a cohesive and relevant, orally defensible thesis.

Module Assessment Strategies

The structure of the project assessment will depend on whether they are desk, field or lab based with detailed marking schemes developed for each. The thesis will be marked by the supervisor and a second internal examiner in addition to an external examiner. A Viva may or may not be required.
