AGRI06001 2016 Agricultural Animal Science
This subject aims to provide the learner with introductory concepts and knowledge of the relevant anatomical and physiological systems in farm livestock and poultry and examines how these systems relate to farm animal production, animal welfare and animals as a source of food for human consumption.
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
List and explain key concepts in farm animal anatomy and physiology
Identify and describe the structure and function of the major body systems of farm animals
Explain the composition and nutritive value of common animal feedstuffs
Outline the nutritional requirements of farm animals
Source and interpret relevant appropriate information/literature and apply the knowledge
Communicate information accurately and effectively using appropriate forms e.g. written, visual, oral
Teaching and Learning Strategies
The teaching strategy will involve use of lectures, practical sessions, opportunities for on-line formative assessment and directed independent learning as well as a clear expectation of non-directed independent learning.
Module Assessment Strategies
Module will be assessed using a combination of continuous assessment and practicals.
Continuous assessments will comprise regular summative tests to encourage engagement with the module, monitor progress and provide feedback and to examine the fundamental knowledge of the learner.
Practical work will be assessed via written assignments/reports and summative assessment.
Repeat assessment, where relevant, will involve assignment or practical test that provides evidence that the student has met the subject and topic learning outcomes to the required standard.
