Description

The student will appreciate the essential elements of financial management for the developing company, understand the principles of financial strategy, investment appraisal, cost of capital and capital structure and provide relevant information and advice to organisations and individuals.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Assess the role of the finance function within an organisation and the impact of the financial and economic environment in which it operates.

2.

Identify and discuss the primary objective for a business, distinguishing between wealth maximisation and profit maximisation.

3.

Explain how corporate governance, risk management, behaving ethically and the needs of other stakeholders influence the pursuit of shareholder wealth maximisation.

4.

Critically appraise capital investment projects through the use of appropriate techniques and justify a course of action after considering the impact of inflation, taxation and risk.

5.

Calculate the cost of capital for a business and evaluate different capital structure options available.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

This module will be delivered through a combination of lectures and tutorials. An essential part of the teaching and learning strategy will be to enable the students to apply their learning where applicable.

Module Assessment Strategies

This subject will be assessed by a combination of an individual exam style continuous assessment and an end of semester exam.

Repeat Assessments

The unsuccessful candidate will be required to repeat the failed element of their assessed work.
